Stave Core Door Stiles and Rails |
A stave core door stile is a piece of wood with a core manufactured of a lower grade material glued together with veneers and edges of a finished species of lumber glued on the outsides for dimensional stability. Stiles are the vertical pieces on a door and rails are the horizontal pieces. This construction is superior because of the material's ability to stay straight. The stresses in each piece of lumber glued together work against each other to stay straight. Doors made from a solid piece of lumber can bow or twist.
Our cores are manufactured from oak, pine, poplar or, depending on customer specifications, we can make the core out of another species. We work with all species of lumber for the face veneers and the finished edges from domestic to foreign hard wood lumber and softwood lumber.

The face veneers can be 1/4", 3/16" or 1/8" thickness and can be used as either an interior door veneer or an exterior door veneer.

The finished edges can be whatever thickness you need. The thickness of the edges is determined by the desired profiling on the edge. A 5/8" edge is good for a profile of 1/2" or less. If a deeper profile is needed we can supply a thicker edge on 1 or both edges. |
We pick material for grain and color match depending on the species of wood used and the specifications supplied by the customer, for example all heartwood cherry or all sapwood maple, quarter sawn or plain sawn lumber etc.
We manufacture the stiles and rails to our customers specifications using the best grade of wood available for the application.
